Popularization of microbial inoculants among SC farmers of Thiruvananthapuram District

In a significant move to enhance sustainable farming practices among Scheduled Caste (SC) farmers, a series of training sessions were recently held in Thiruvananthapuram district, under the All India Network Project on Soil Biodiversity-Biofertilizers SC Sub Plan. These sessions, focused on the popularization of microbial inoculants, took place in Kilmanoor, Pulimath, and Veganoor, witnessing the participation of seventy-five farmers.

The training aimed to educate farmers about the use of microbial inoculants in crop cultivation. These biological inputs are increasingly recognized for their role in sustainable agriculture, enhancing soil fertility and plant health while reducing chemical inputs.

Leading the training sessions were esteemed experts Dr. Chitra N., Dr. Anu Rajan S., and Dr. Soumya V. I., who provided comprehensive insights into various aspects of microbial inoculants. Farmers learned about the types of inoculants, their significant impact on crop yield, methods of application, and overall benefits to soil health and crop productivity.

As a practical component of the training, participants also received biofertilizers and biocontrol agents. This hands-on approach ensured that the farmers not only gained theoretical knowledge but also acquired the tools necessary to implement these practices in their fields.

This initiative marks an important step in promoting eco-friendly and efficient farming practices among SC farmers, potentially leading to improved crop yields, soil health, and a reduced ecological footprint.
