- To serve as a centre of excellence to coordinate sustainable, environmental friendly and multi-disciplinary research suitable to the agro-ecological zones of southern Kerala collaborating with national and international research organizations
- To undertake scientific and technical visit of experts in the field of agriculture as a referral system
- To act as an incubator centre in the field of agriculture and allied sector
- To link the Zonal Research and Extension Advisory Committee with development departments and to help in agricultural policy making
- To serve as a nodal centre for training and supply of specialized agricultural technologies
